“I Noticed Your Strengths" Exercise

The purpose of this exercise is to experience the effect of reinforcing the strengths of people close to you.  Too often positive thoughts go unspoken; more often than most of us realize, others have no idea that you noticed much less admire them. The “I Noticed Your Strengths” Exercise encourages you to share your appreciation of others and their qualities that you admire.

Instructions:

Identify a situation in which someone you work with or whom you are close to you did something that showed a strength of her/him.  Take note of what that strength was, how it was displayed, and the effect of their action (e.g., how they added value, made an important contribution) and why it is important to you. Then actually provide them with this positive feedback.

Whose strength did you notice?

1.  Recent Incident: What it was that you noticed, how did she/he display a strength, how they added value, made an important contribution, and/or why it is important to you.

2.  Provide Feedback: Describe how it made you feel and the impact on the other when you shared your observations and appreciation.
